Mise-en-scene: Stranger Things

COSTUME:

In the beginning of the trailer there is a man wearing a white lab coat. Lab coats are usually used as  way to identify  scientists. Later on in the trailer it moves to 4 teenage boys wearing typical 1980s clothes: colourful jumper, plain blue jeans and a pair of trainers. The colourful sweater could be a way of representing the way their lives are simple and in order, full of innocence that will soon be snatched from them.

LIGHTING:

At the stare of the trailer, the hallway is dark and there are flashing lights. The flashing lights in the background could have connotations of monsters and fantasy. The flashing lights could also be used as a way to introduce something new into the series/trailer.

ACTOR PLACEMENT/MOVEMENT/EXPRESSION:

At the beginning of the trailer there is a man running through a long hallway. As the camera moves to his face you can see how he looks scared, unsure all at once. By the actor putting on these expressions it could show how the character has perhaps done something he shouldn't have. As the trailer moves on you see the 4 teenage boys in a basement looking engrossed in a board game where they're all waiting with their hands over their mouths, hands locked together and biting their lips in anticipation. This similar expressions could foreshadow how the boys will be linked in with the man in the lab coat.
