In my opinion I Daniel Blake was successful because they earned £11 million at the box office when they had only expected around £4 million. The movie was premiered in Newcastle and was “pay what you can”. The film was aimed at a certain audience: people who are living off benefits. The film wasn’t made for entertainment purposes but more for a political purpose.
I, Daniel Blake won the Cannes Film Festival award. It was a big hit in places like France.
